Abstract. Hardwood tree length stems are being processed into veneer and sawlogs, peeler logs, OSB material, and pulpwood. We are working with Michigan Tech to upgrade HW-BUCK to optimize the conversion of tree length stems to the above products. The program will be in "Windows" format and be very user friendly. The program will also determine tree grade from the butt log. The program will also allow the user to customize the log grading rules or use Forest Service and other predefined rules.

This is a joint Forest Service effort between SRS-4702 and NERS-4701 in Princeton, WV. HW-BUCK is intended for use as a training tool, but will also be used to evaluate standing timber.
